The Light Saving Spectacle

Switzerland is cutting consumption

Without light, nothing works at Rendez-vous Bundesplatz. Yes, we need electricity. And yes, it works! Rendez-vous Bundesplatz, the famous Son-et-Lumière event at the Swiss Parliament building, can also save electricity. We started to do this on a large scale last year. Among other things, with the latest technology in laser phosphor projectors: the virtually maintenance-free laser light sources save up to 30% energy.

We are continuing this year. In keeping with the guiding principle of sustainability: reduce energy consumption, increase energy efficiency and promote renewable energies.

This year, for the first time, we are using one hundred per cent renewable energy from “Energie Wasser Bern”, or “ewb” for short. According to the latest comparative study by the Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE), ewb is one of the most sustainable energy suppliers in Switzerland. Energie Wasser Bern achieved top results in all the areas studied and even took top place in the electricity and gas categories.

ewb is the perfect partner for Rendez-vous Bundesplatz.

We will also maintain what we started last year: Monday evenings are off the air. This results in a saving of around 15%. Federal Council target achieved!

It all starts on 21 October 2023. Every evening three times – 7 p.m., 8 p.m. and 9 p.m., except on Mondays. And this until 25 November 2023.

It is not certain that staying at home requires less electricity than going to “Mystic”. But we can promise you one thing: it will definitely be more spectacular at the Federal Palace.
