Well-known sounds and vividly colourful scenes from our natural world: with the light and sound story “Volare”, Rendez-vous Bundesplatz 2024 takes us deep into the world of native birds.

Owls and kingfishers, bearded vultures and great spotted woodpeckers, cranes and lapwings – the variety of birds on the Bundesplatz will once again amaze visitors to the light and sound spectacle.

Wallcreepers will climb the façade of parliament and dippers will fly through a thundering waterfall. The audience will witness a heart-warming black grouse courtship dance, learn about the eating habits of a swallow family and watch nocturnal hunting scenes with excitement.

The Bundeshaus itself is wondrously versatile: gramophone, rock cave, research biotope, concert hall – the creative minds behind the spectacle spared no challenge when redesigning the parliamentary façade.

And there are also few limits to the musical spectrum. From birdsong to Pink Panther, from Beethoven to Bob Marley, everything is allowed. Flying and singing – what could be better? “Volare oh oh, cantare oh oh!”

By the way: the song “Volare” by Domenico Modugno is actually called “Nel Blu Dipinto Di Blu”. The Italian cantautore, actor and politician landed a global hit with the song in 1958 – 66 years ago.

This year, the Sempach Ornithological Institute is a content partner for “Volare” that couldn’t be more fitting. The ornithological institute is celebrating its 100th anniversary and is one of the main partners of Rendez-vous Bundesplatz 2024.
