A fascinating journey around the world.

This year’s Rendez-vous Bundesplatz invites visitors on an adventurous journey around the world to experience together the fascination of our planet’s cultural diversity. The journey takes the audience by land, sea and air to some of the world’s most famous landmarks and cultural monuments. It leads to mysterious places and the vibrant metropolises of distant countries. This journey is accompanied by a musical diversity from different cultures and eras of our time.

Start hot air balloon

A hot air balloon bearing the emblem of the Federal Palace is filled with air. The flames of the burner inflate the balloon to its full size. The emblem blends in with the façade and the title appears in golden letters.

Departure, balloon flight to France

A map appears on the front, showing the first stage of the journey. A telescope is also displayed, pointing towards the audience and focusing on the first destination.

Arrival in Paris

When viewed through the telescope, the Eiffel Tower appears. The arrival in France is greeted with a shower of tricolour confetti and paper streamers.

Journey to Egypt

The map illustrates the rest of the journey to Egypt. When viewed through the telescope, the pyramids of Giza become visible. This is followed by a camera pan across the landscape of the pyramids.

India – Taj Mahal

Visitors follow the journey depicted on the map, from Egypt to the Taj Mahal in India. Upon arrival, the Federal Palace is transformed into the magnificent temple complex of the Taj Mahal. Colourfully painted elephants emerge from the temple and move in sync to the music.

Transformation into a locomotive

The front of the Bundeshaus is transformed into an old steam locomotive. The locomotive sets off to the sound of hissing and steam. The journey now continues on land with a train.

Travelling to Thailand

Mystical smoke fills the picture. A magnificent temple complex emerges from the smoke.

Transformation into a sailing ship

Once on the Pacific coast, the façade of the Federal Palace is transformed into an old sailing ship.

Brazil, Rio de Janeiro

The telescope captures the Sugar Loaf Mountain and the famous "Cristo Redentor", the world-famous statue of Rio de Janeiro

New York

The front of the Federal Palace is transformed into the streets of New York, with its neon signs, concert halls, and bars, to the tune of "New York, New York." A camera pans through the glamorous streets to the world-famous Chrysler Building.

Crossing to Europe

In a sparkling night-time atmosphere, the ship's journey to Europe is traced on a star map, accompanied by the song ‘Sailing’. The journey across the North Atlantic is accompanied by shimmering silhouettes of seagulls.

London

Accompanied by the anthem "God Save the King," Big Ben Tower appears through binoculars.

Departure for home

The map announces the journey home from London to Bern. The return trip to Switzerland is now by hot-air balloon. As the balloon approaches the Federal Palace from afar, greeting cards from distant countries rain down on the front of the building. The scene is accompanied by the atmospheric song ‘Home’.

Closing and bowing

The names of the show's producers (Starlight Events, Lumine and Okula) are displayed on the emblem.

As the balloon moves away from the Federal Palace, the light illuminates the musicians on the live stage. At the end of the original song “Ich war noch niemals in New York” (I’ve never been to New York), the live musicians from ThakeThis seamlessly join in with their own short interpretation of the song, extending it slightly.
